Introductory Statement
Hello! My name is Candice Milam. I am soon graduating from Regent University with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis on PreK through 6th grade.
My early years in school were a constant struggle. It wasn't until my fourth grade teacher, Miss Bell, changed my life forever. She sparked a love of learning in my heart. She made learning fun. She stayed after school to tutor any student who needed it. She went to every student’s house for dinner so that she could get a better understanding of where her students came from. Ever since then, I’ve wanted to be a teacher just like her. I want to make my students feel as special as she made me feel. I want them to know that learning is fun and anyone can learn.
While at Regent University, I have had multiple opportunities to enhance my teaching experience. Through my student teaching placements I have learned the necessary skills to become an effective teacher. I know how to manage a class, lesson plan, integrate technology effectively, use VDOE as a tool to help shape my lessons, and many other useful skills. I have realized that as an educator I am a lifelong learner. I love learning new ways to help teach my students.
